Noticed a pair of swans with their three cygnets still with their baby plummage. Lots of leaves about now. Now is the time to pick the red berried holly and put them into black bags before the birds eat the berries.

Autumn colours

Autumn colours along the Wye valley are fantastic at the moment. I love the colours in the valley at this time of year.  It reminds me of the Fall in North America when we lived there for a few years. The holly berries are now getting very bright – will be interesting to see if this is a true symbol of a harsh winter.

Pictures kindly donated by our most recent Fishermen at the cottage who enjoyed our free fishing on 80 yards of the river Wye.

The chubs certainly were keen to make their aquaintance over this half term. As long as you have a current license this is available to anyone staying as our guest during the season.

Autumn notes 2010

This summer has been very busy and now the swallows have gone! We had 3 sittings for some of the couples and we did have some trouble with Sparrowhawks. The swallows made a tremendous noise whenever the Sparrowhawk was around – don’t think it managed to get any!

Since we’ve had some rain the fish have been biting and the fishermen have been successfully catching Barbel – 68 fish in one week – all back in the river safely!!

Two Foals arrived

Sat was an exciting day as 2 new foals arrived, mares and foals are all well

We now have 2 pairs of swallows hopefully at least another pair should arrive soon!
